Climb the Snake Path in the dark, watch the sun rise over the Moab mountains, and end with a float in the Dead Sea.

Masada Sunrise & a Dead Sea Float
Nature & LandscapesArchaeology

We set out before dawn and climb the Snake Path to the top of Masada, an ascent of about 350 meters. From the summit we watch the sun rise over the Moab mountains with the Dead Sea below, then tour Herod's palaces, the storerooms, the synagogue and the Roman camps around.

We tell the story of the rebels who held Masada at the end of the Great Revolt, and what archaeology reveals about it. After the descent we drive to a Dead Sea beach, the lowest place on the face of the planet, to float and rest.

Route notes

A very early start. Steep climb: hiking shoes and 3 liters of water. The cable car is an alternative.
