Cranes at Agamon Hula

ens of thousands of cranes, pelicans, and even a few water buffalo: one of Israel’s most spectacular winter wildlife displays.

Cranes at Agamon Hula
Nature & Landscapes

Every winter tens of thousands of cranes stop at Agamon Hula on their way between Europe and Africa. Early in the morning we tour the park by safari wagon or bike, get close to the flocks from the floating hide, and hear their calls.

Along the way: how the Hula swamp was drained in the 1950s, why part of it was reflooded in the 1990s, and how that brought back the birds, the water buffalo and the Hula painted frog, thought extinct until it was rediscovered in 2011.
