Timna Park: Solomon's Pillars and Ancient Copper Mines
Nature & LandscapesArchaeology

Timna, north of Eilat, is a desert valley where erosion has shaped remarkable forms: the Mushroom, the Arches and Solomon's Pillars. We walk among the cliffs and see how the colors of the sandstone formed.

Copper was mined at Timna some 6,000 years ago. We visit the ancient shafts, the rock drawings and the temple the Egyptians built for the goddess Hathor, and see why this place mattered so much to ancient kingdoms.
